Asbestos Abatement

The Hazards of Asbestos in Building Products

Asbestos, chosen for its tensile strength and chemical and thermal resistance, has found widespread use in various building materials. Despite its advantageous properties, the material poses significant dangers to both workers and the public due to airborne particles, leading to severe health risks such as lung cancer and mesothelioma.

Comprehensive Asbestos Abatement and Encapsulation Services

Quality Living of Washington specializes in secure and efficient abatement and encapsulation services for asbestos-containing materials (ACM). Asbestos abatement involves a set of procedures controlling the release of asbestos fibers, particularly during general construction activities such as demolition, removal, renovation, and repair. Additionally, our asbestos encapsulation service utilizes a sealing process to harden asbestos fibers, preventing their release. If recommended by an AHERA certified building inspector, Quality Living of Washington collaborates with clients to schedule and execute abatement projects safely and efficiently, minimizing disruptions to ongoing projects.

Steps in the Asbestos Abatement Process

The asbestos abatement process comprises crucial steps, all necessary to uphold the ongoing safety of individuals within your home, building, or structure.

  • First, moveable objects are removed from the work area and then our team installs plastic sheeting on walls and floors to isolate the work area. This is known as containment or enclosure.
  • After all asbestos containing materials have been removed, all surfaces inside the containment will be wiped down and cleaned.
  • All the removed materials are placed in containers and taken away from the worksite.
  • After the area has been contained, all contaminated material is dampened and removed. In some instances, a decontamination unit with a working shower is set up for workers to use when entering or exiting the work area.
  • Lastly, your building will be tested to ensure that all contaminants are gone by using both a visual inspection method as well as an air clearance sample.
  • Once the test indicates that abatement was successful, all equipment and containment barriers will be removed from your building.
